Blum, Mike

blum2_setMike is the Senior Academic Technologist for the Humanities. He holds an MA in English Literature from the College of William & Mary and an MA in Medieval English Literature from the University of Virginia. It was at the University of Virginia where he first began to develop an interest in academic technology, when he worked as a research assistant on the Piers Plowman Digital Project, an effort to digitize and machine-code all 56 surviving manuscripts of the Middle English poem.

Mike has taught English composition and literature at the University of Virginia, the College of William & Mary, and Thomas Nelson Community College, and continues to teach academic technology related topics at William & Mary on occasion.

Mike’s interests and expertise in academic technology are varied, but his current work focuses largely on faculty/student collaboration and multimedia production and presentation. Mike regularly teaches faculty and students best practices in using a diverse set of technology tools specifically geared toward the academic goals of each course or program. Some areas of expertise he can help you with are: web development using WordPress or other web software and programming languages such as html and css, photography, photo editing with programs such as Photoshop and Picasa, videography, video editing with software such as iMovie, mapping, and presentation software such as PowerPoint.
