Jorge Terukina specializes in the transatlantic Hispanic world (Spain & the New World) during the early modern period (16th and 17th centuries).  His teaching and research pay due attention to the relations between pre-modern disciplines, political context, and cultural production.  He is currently studying the political implications of Bernardo de Balbuena’s Grandeza mexicana (1604).  His research insterests encompass transatlantic artifacts and practices from the early modern period, including ephemeral architecture and spectacles, and emblem studies.  He is also interested in book history, editorial practices, and canon formation.
